Ulapgarh Hilltop
Ulapgarh Hilltop & Forts is a small hill located about fifteen minutes from Belpahar Railway Station. It is believed that revolutionaries who fought for India’s independence found shelter in this area. Today, you can still see torch-holding spaces that have been carved into the rock face.
The trek up the hill requires a strong mindset, as the sun and dry heat can take a toll on your body’s hydration. However, once you reach the top, the view is absolutely stunning. The mix of lush greenery and major silence is very rejuvenating.
It’s important to keep track of your path so you don’t accidentally take a different route and get lost. This area is a picnic spot. At the base of Maheswar Pahad lies a small village named “Ulap.”
Approximately one kilometer from the village, you can find the ruins of Ulapgarh.Maheswar Pahad stands around 1000 feet tall at this site, featuring a large flat area at its summit. The fort of Ulapgarh was constructed on this rectangular flat stone area. The dimensions of the flat stone surface are roughly 400 meters in length and 250 meters in width.
To the east of the fort, the densely forested Baramunda Hills are situated about 7 kilometers away, while Belpahar Railway Station is located 5 kilometers to the west. A thick forest extends northward to Hemgir and southward to Bad Job village.
