Arasavalli Sun Temple
Arasavalli Sun Temple in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, is a renowned sanctuary dedicated to the Hindu solar deity, Surya. Located in the town of Arasavalli, this temple is one of the few sun temples in India and has a rich historical significance. Believed to be constructed in the 7th century by the Kalinga rulers, the temple has seen enhancements by subsequent dynasties like Cholas, Gajapatis, and others. The architecture of the temple reflects the style prevalent in Eastern India, with the deity of Sun God being accompanied by Usha and Chhaya, consorts of Surya, depicted on either side. The main sanctum is surrounded by a prakara and there is a noteworthy Dwajasthambam (flagstaff) inside the temple courtyard. The temple is significant for its annual Rathasapthami festival, attracting thousands of devotees. Pilgrims believe that worshipping here can cure skin diseases and bestow good health and prosperity.
